Street appeal zero? Try Deco Battens
Our house had zero street appeal. There’s a high fence and all you could see behind the fence was a small peak at a yellow and blue balcony from early 1990s. It was not appealing. But we love an ugly duckling so we knew it wouldn’t be too long before we could transform it into a swan.
One of the big things in getting to swan status (ok the biggest thing) was painting the house white (read more about that here).
The next step was the balcony facing the street. It looked tired and in need of some TLC. I thought about a couple of different options but decided to go for “deco battens”. These are a relatively new product - they’re aluminium poles that look like timber.
TBH, even up close it looks like real timber (see pic above).
Why did we chose deco-battens?
We chose the deco-battens for a couple of reasons:
Street Appeal - from the street our house was kinda boring, I wanted to add some kapow.
Coast vibe - we’re very close to water and the battens add a relaxed coastal vibe to the house.
No maintenance - even though the battens look like timber, they’re actually made from aluminium. So they can withstand harsh conditions and don’t require painting. #winwin
How do you use them?
We’ve used them in two ways:
for the balcony instead of the old timber balustrading; and
to update our front entry gate.
Where do I buy them?
We bought the battens from @deco_australia and had them professionally installed. They come in a range of colours - ours are called “Curly Birch”. We’re super happy with our new looking home.
